Vienna Villa Cemetery Association

Annual meeting

Sunday, May 19, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.

Community room at the Vienna Village Fire Station

Minutes

Four members; Jim Anderberg, president, Cynthia Pelliccia, secretary,  Barbara Gilman and Norma Williams plus guests; Libby Harville, Sarah Swift Simons and Kelly O’Neil attended.  Bob Weingarten arrived later for the “Green” cemetery talk.

Without a quorum which requires 6 members, no business was conducted.  It was decided that another business meeting will be needed in the next few months.

The purpose of the Association is the upkeep of the cemetery.  The membership is small and there are interested and contributing people who do not own plots.  Consideration of membership will be one of the issues to discuss and decide at a future business meeting.  We need to increase our membership.

Jim expressed some concern about the cost of upkeep. While the mowing cost is reasonable, it still is a sizeable sum.

We spent the rest of the meeting hearing about green cemeteries.  Sarah had arranged for Chuck Lakin to come at 1:30 to tell us about “green” cemeteries. Chuck gave us a lot of information and answered our questions.  It was agreed we are fortunate to have been given the 10.7 acres across the road from the current cemetery.   Some towns that are considering green cemeteries are looking for pieces of land where they can establish one.

There are many issues to be considered for those additional acres.  First decision will be how to set up and manage that space.
